93 women report a rape every single day in India (National Crime Records Bureau). And this is only the reported number of instances, given the cultural and social taboos regarding rape, many cases go unreported. The fear of violence has shaped the lives of Indian women and girls. From getting married earlier, to having a curfew every evening, to choosing jobs and housing that are located in “safer” communities, to making traveling alone an unthinkable task. This fear of the “unfathomable” has limited the potential of millions of girls across our nation.
